Happy New Year - we hope that you rang in the new year with merriment and joy and that it continues through the 2011! We both enjoyed the holiday break with our families and decided that we are going to take a break from the Cinema Challenges for awhile. We absolutely love this challenge and we love all of you and your creations - but we just felt like we needed a break. We didn't want to end this challenge quite yet - but just needed a few months to just enjoy being with family and not have too much on our blogging plate. We hope you understand and will come back to play with us later on during this year :)

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge Winners

Hi Everyone,

First of all a HUGE thank you to all who played along with us - we loved seeing all of your amazing creations and reading about where you got your inspiration from! Also a big apology not to posting this earlier - the holidays have descended and amidst traveling, birthdays and christmas shopping - life has definitely turned it up a notch!

We had so many wonderful creations that are inspired by our 100th movie challenge: Pride & Prejudice These 4 creations caught our attention with their beauty and how they connected their creations to different aspects of the movie:

We absolutely LOVED and were just in absolute awe of Vladuska's amazing creation - WOW! She created such a beautiful book cover for her original Pride & Prejudice book from 1969 that is inspired by the feel of Jane Austen. Where do we even start? From the very beginning of her post, her project just captures Pride and Prejudice and brings it to life. All the details and 3D feel of this bookcover, makes you feel like you can walk through those stone gates and float into Jane Austen-land! Since our sponsors don't ship to Slovenia - we will be contacting you to send you something else for this gorgeous work of art!

1. The winner of the Taylored Expressions prize goes to this lovely card from Amy C has such amazing details! The handmade flowers, the embossed metal, the pearls, the hatpins: all reminded us of all the scenes where the women would be sitting around doing their embroidery, needlework and crafting. The layout of her card made us think of an empire waisted dress that the women wore in this time period and the soft colors and textures and lovely sentiment, all captured a timeless Jane Austen feel. 2. The winner of the Verve Stamps prize goes to this gorgeous card that Maureen created for the challenge - and the sentiment is just beautiful! We both want to say it as often as possible to our own DHs everyday (with a British accent of course!) Maureen's style is so clean and elegant and they she framed the quote as the focal image with all the gorgeous embellishments and stitching is simply beautiful!!! The soft pinks and gorgeous papers and patterns are simply perfect! You can check out more details of how she made this delightful creation here:

3. The winner of the JustRite Stamps prize goesWe both just loved Leslie's take on this movie challenge - as soon as we saw the sentiment: "Don't judge me by my relatives" - we both burst out giggling!!! How true! For this movie, Elizabeth and Jane (the two older sisters) have to face so much from society because of the shameless behavior of their relatives (parents and sisters). Even in his first proposal to Elizabeth, Mr. Darcy says: "The relative situation of our families is such that any alliance between us must be regarded as a highly reprehensible connection." So romantic right?! Her use of the lace requirement in the handkerchief made us have one of those "why didn't I think of that!" - so clever!!! 4. The winner of the Gina K. Designs prize goes to this gorgeous card created by Danni C., which showcases the importance of music in this movie and how it really sets the tone of this movie - it makes us thinks of multiple things that centers around music. Music was a sign of accomplishment for the ladies in this era - whether it was sung or played - the mastery of music indicated a certain class and rank. There are so many pivotal scenes in this movie that revolve around music, the most memorable of which is Mr. Darcy's love-fire look at Elizabeth as she is at the piano We loved the way that the music papers were distressed and the gorgeous heart and small bouquet of flowers was just the perfect finishing detail. Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #100 - Pride & Prejudice

Welcome Everyone to our 100th Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge - where this week we are picking the movie that YOU voted on: Jane Austen's classic novel turned cinema magic: Pride & Prejudice! There are a couple of different versions of Pride & Prejudice (but most die-hard fans will claim that there really is only one version: the 1995 Pride & Prejudice BBC production featuring on Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle!) Our Cinema Saturday Challenges were born over 2 years ago, when we spoke on the phone and discovered our love of all things Jane Austen and how fun it would be to do a challenge where we could create cards and projects inspired by the movies - our very first challenge was Pride & Prejudice! It is so fun to re-visit this movie and come full circle with it being our 100th movie! For our challenge requirement this week - we thought it would be very "proper" to have a hint of lace in your movie creations (or more than just a hint if you would like :) We are so excited to see what you have created and to celebrate our 100th challenge we also have some wonderful prizes from some amazing companies to celebrate our 100th birthday!

Brooke's Project Inspired By the Movie ~Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice..

If you can imagine with me you might even agree that Ms Bennett(Elizabeth) would have most defiantly keep the letters she had received from Mr Darcy. She would have savored every work whether she agreed with them or not. She would have analyzed the penmanship and tried to make out what kind of a gentleman he really was... I think she would have keep them with her when she traveled as well. She would have made a special box to keep them in fashioned out of some of the trimmings that she and her sisters would have had on hand to make bonnets and bows...

I would like to think that the secret piece of lace was from a dress that she might have been wearing and maybe even been noticed in my Mr Darcy... My cohort and I also agreed after her visit to Pemberly that she would have kept this picture in her keepsake box as well. She would have had to draw her picture but we will share one of our favorites from our trip to Pemberly... My helper also quoted "And to think... Of all this I might have been mistress"

Sankari's Project Inspired By the Movie ~Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice..

I don't know anymore how many times I have watched the BBC version of Pride & Prejudice (you would think that I would remember how many times I have watched a 6 hour movie!!! lol!) I can watch this movie everyday and not get bored, I can watch it for hours on end will I craft or knit and know what the next line is, and when I read the book, I can see this movie in my head - it is so true to the book and the characters are just as I imagined - although Mr. Darcy (Colin) in the lake scene totally won my heart more than I imagined Mr. Darcy in the book ever could :)

For my project today, I wanted to do something with the fact that I can watch this movie so many times - and the reason I think that I can is because of the love that Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth have for each other is something both passionate, reserved and respectful. Their love story builds slowly and solidly - they are attracted to each other's integrity and intelligence and as they discover towards the end - there is no one else that they would rather be with than each other - regardless of the prejudices of class that might have separated them. I wanted to create something inspired by their love story - so I create a little something for my beloved DH. Its really rare these days that we even have a picture of just the two of us - so when my friend snapped this picture of us I was so excited to be able to do something with it.

I created a page using some of the damask pattens that are seen in the movie either in the couches or the wallpapers. I wanted to keep the feeling like a modern vintage and so added little touches of black rather than brown. All of the papers and flower and ribbon (and hat pins) are from Taylored Expressions and the lovely sentiment is from Verve Stamps: "A true Love Story Never Ends." I love how this turned out and I had a shadowbox frame for my scrapbook page so that one could still see the dimensionality of the project.

I can't wait to give this to my DH for his birthday :) Check out my blog for more details!

Need some ideas for a Pride & Prejudice inspired creation?

Sisterhood is a big theme in this movie - how through the bonds of sisterhood, each sister can overcome the troubles that she might be faced with. And not matter if they don't get along now and again - they are still sisters to the end.
Mother/Daughter relationship - Mrs. Bennett - is a character with a lot of "personality" which can also come off as annoying as she desperately tries to ensure each of her daughter's well being - but regardless of her mosquito like persistence - she only has the best interest in heart - and there is still tender love between her and her daughters
Father/Daughter relationship - Mr. Bennett and Elizabeth have such a sweet father/daughter relationship - they love each other and she is definitely a favorite of his.
Love: there are so many aspects to the love theme that you can create something from in this movie - the love between Jane and Mr. Bingly and between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth are two different aspects of love.
Friendship: Charlotte and Elizabeth have such a lovely friendship and even though Charlotte's perspective and follow through on love and marriage are entirely different from Elizabeth's - they are friends with a deep understanding of each through it all
Costumes - based on the costumes of the dresses/suits worn in this movie - you can create a card from that
Furniture, Quotes, Music - based on the feeling, colors, etc. behind these in the movie - you can create a card from that.

These are just some ideas of all the themes in this movie and we hope that this will jumpstart your mojo! We can't wait to see your lovely creations!!

This was our very 1st movie that we ever did and we are happy to revisit it again two years later with all of you! So, we will be presenting our creations this saturday for the movie challenge and we can't wait to see what you create! We can't believe that we are already at our 100th challenge!!!!! WOW!!!!! How time flies!!!! We were so excited when we first started this challenge over two years ago and have had so much fun meeting new blog friends, seeing your amazing cinema creations and reading about where you get your creative inspiration from the different movies we pick each month!!!!

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #99 - Edward Scissorhands

Welcome Everyone to our 99th challenge (WOW!) where this week we are featuring the Oscar nominated Tim Burton movie: Edward Scissorhands starring someone we love: Johnny Depp! If you haven't seen it - this movie is amazing - as usual, Tim Burton takes you into another world with his amazing imagination and introduces a character who is so sweet and loving, even though he has scissors for hands. The story of Edward will definitely touch your heart! More than anything, Tim Burtons' use of colors and images is amazing in this movie, its not just dark, but it has bursts of color when Edward goes into suburbia and for all the different emotions, there are parallels in the movie with the different colors. The Challenge Requirement this week is to hand cut something or use a die cut in your creation *** that is inspired by the movie (in honor of his scissorhands :)

It really is amazing! We hope you will watch it and play along!

Sankari's Card Inspired by the movie: Edward Scissorhands

As many of you know, I have a slight thing for Johnny Depp (just a slight thing!! LOLOLOL!!!) - the man is just an incredible actor, as well, as just being plain old incredible! Do you know that he lost 25 lbs for this movie! And that this movie was Vincent Price's last screen appearance? (you can find all these trivia bits here). I LOVE the use of color in this movie - seriously - it is amazing how Burton uses color to create emotion or to express an emotion. When Edward is in the Inventor's castle, it is more dark and when he emerges into suburbia with all the different colored houses etc., there are these bursts of color as he lives in the warmth of love and appreciation. For my card today, I wanted to create something that had elements of being:
- a black and white feel when he is with the Inventor
- and the colorful aspect of when he lives with Peg
- something that has a buckle of sorts to represent his amazing outfit!
All of these elements came together with this semi quote from Johnny Depp as he was interviewed by Arsenio Hall, where he said that the feeling of Edward Scissorhands for him was of "Not being able to fit in, the feeling of wanting to touch something, but not being able too, its the feeling of your early teens..." I thought I wanted to create a card for a teen who is going through those teenish turmoils and would need some reassurance that they actually don't have to try to fit into anything other then being themselves. This is why I adore the character of Peg and Edward, she is such a mother figure and tries to take care of him and tries to make him feel loved. This inspired the lovely sentiment: "I love you just the way you are" - Isn't this sentiment just so sweet and so nourishing! I loved making this card for the challenge:

I had so much fun experimenting with black and white and mixing it up with color and and texture. I hope you will play along and can't wait to see your creative take!

We haven't forgotten about our Audrey Winners - or special prizes - you guys create such amazing works of art - that it really is painful to choose one over another! From last week's challenge, we loved all of your felted creations and the quotes you chose just were absolutely perfect and inspiring!!! One card that we loved was Banu's sweet card about courage - the sentiment spoke to us about how the boys came to rally around their Captain - so we hope Banu that you will join us as our Guest Designer as our Audrey Winner this week! For all of you who participated in our World Card Making Day challenge - WOW!!! First off you guys came up with amazing movie choices (and we can't wait to do them!!! hopefully, you will play along again when we pick your movie choice!) - and again - its so hard to pick - but our special prize goes to Karli - who totally had us laughing with her pick of a Nightmare on Elm Sreet - we loved her take on the movie, that she picked her favorite genre - "horror" and the way she created the card!So Karli - please send me (Sankari) an email so I can send you some special little somethings for your crafting pleasure :)

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #98 - Dead Poet's Society

Welcome to our 98th challenge, where this week we are featuring the 1990 Oscar winning movie: Dead Poet's Society. This movie is set at a conservative Prep School, where the lives of the senior boys are changed during the course learning from their English teacher who inspires them to see the world with a new perspective, to think outside of the box and to become inspired by words, ideas and the essence of the human spirit. This is an inspiring story, heartwarming and we thought for the challenge requirement this week that it would be fun to use "felt" in your creations - as it reminded us of the prep school fall uniforms and also that all poetry should be felt with the heart :)

Some ideas for cards or creations could be: something created for an inspirational teacher, using some words of poetry from the works of Whitman, Lord Byron, Thoreau and other poets mentioned in the movie, to create a card for someone who inspires you, a card about friendships, about following your dreams, etc. Anything from the movie that speaks to you or inspires you!

Sankari's card inspired by the movie: Dead Poet's Society

I loved watching this movie in college and being inspired by the way Professor Keating taught his students and inspired them to "Seize the Day". The phrase "Carpe Diem" was something that he taught them on the very first day - that for every moment of this precious life, we should seize the moment and make our dreams a reality! So for my card, I wanted to create a card with the sentiment Carpe Diem as the main focal point
. I love these papers from Crate Paper - and had so much fun cutting out the little different colored report cards. I stamped the same sentiment Carpe Diem a few times on some of the grade cards in a softer ink (Desert Sand) and then arranged them in a fan shape. I wanted to colors to be more masculine since the movie was about a boy's prep school.

I cut some brown felt out for a scalloped border and then finished it with some liquid pearls. I thought this would be a fun card to give to a student who is heading off to college.

I had a lot of fun playing along this week!! Hope you have a chance to play along as well!

Brooke's card inspired by the movie: Dead Poet's Society

What a great movie full of legendary quotes... "Captain my Captain" and [quoting Henry David Thoreau] "I went to the woods because I wanted to live deliberately. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life." and so on.. You can check out sooo many great quotes here that you can use for your inspiration.. My card is full of inspiration from this movie.. I started with the color scheme and used a more masculine one sense the school is a all boys school. I used a script background to represent the words of poetry from Mr. Keatings(Robyn Williams) class.

The sentiment reflects all the changes and new knowledge that all the boys are experiencing. The stripped D.S.P. even made me think of a mans shirt. Then the finishing piece of inspiration on my card is the felted wool butter fly.. The butter fly represents the main character Neil(Robert Sean Leonard). Neil has alway done what his father and everyone else wants him to do. He finally finds the courage to see who he really is and take great joy in doing so... You could say it is a transformation of sorts but not with our a price. Neil is a caterpillar that turns into a butterfly.. I also chose this piece of felted wool because it reminded me of a blazer that the boys might wear for their uniforms. Don't forget the corduroy button that you might find on a professor/teachers jacket. Sooo many great things you can find in this movie for inspiration.. I could make another card just about the play that Neil preforms in...

In the words of Neil: "For the first time in my whole life, I know what I wanna do! And for the first time, I'm gonna do it! Whether my father wants me to or not! Carpe diem! "

I admit, it has been awhile since I have seen this movie, but the feelings it leaves are still with me.

What a touching and captivating movie, that shows what a difference a teacher can make. This film portrays Robin Williams, as Professor John Keating, a teacher at a private boys school, who gives his poetry class students the inspiration to go against the flow, to be themselves, to "sieze the day". It makes me think of all of the wonderful teachers I've ever had, especially my American Literature teacher in high school, who really took the effort to make sure his students could think outside of the box and encouraged them to stand up for their ideas. I wanted to create a card for someone who inspires, like Professor Keating did for his students, and I wanted to use the color red for the red school sweaters the boys wore in the film (and another excuse to use Cherry Cobbler!).

Happy Fall Ya'll! We all of you in the northern Hemisphere. Here in the States we are definitely changing temperatures.. We were in the high 89 Fahrenheit regions last week here in Utah and this week rain and 60-70 brrrr. it's time to pull out all the warm cloths and settle in with a good movie!

To start out the week of movies we bought the new released "Beauty and the Beast" in the combo pack.. What a fun watch with never seen musical numbers.. We just came out of the 1900 literally and bought a HUGE new T.V. and finally a Blue Ray player.. You can't even imagine how amazing things look.. Everything including our regular t.v. watching looks 3-d because almost everything was already being broadcasted in HD.. That will take a little getting use to for me anyway.. My boys are LOVING all the football they fell like they are there in person.. Can't wait to watch this week movie on the big screen.

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #97 -Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood

Welcome Everyone to the 97th Cinema Saturday Challenge, where this week we are featuring the 1997 movie: Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood which has an all star cast and follows the life stories of the young group of best friends who stay close and protect and take care of each other through their lives. This story is about sisterhood, motherhood, and how we uphold and love each other through thick and thin. For our challenge requirement today, we thought it would be fun to create something that has a "collage" feeling (this can be to create a card with different elements layered together, or a scrapbook page, or a 3D element). Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Sankari's Creation Inspired by the movie: The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood
This movie is so lovely - it is such an amazing movie - filled with comedy, drama, romance and examines the bonds of friendship, sisterhood and motherhood/and being a daughter. In thinking of the bond of sisterhood that was in this movie, I wanted to make a scrapbook page of my daughter and her best friend - these two are like peas in a pod and since the day they met they have been together like super glue. They always hold hands and giggle and even if they ever "fight" they immediately make up with hugs and kisses - its really the sweetest thing. My daughter talks about her BFF all day long - even while she is at home brushing her teeth, she says goodnight to her BBF :) She is only 3 and it always melts my heart how much love she has for her friend at this tender age.

I loved watching this movie about the depths of sisterhood and the sweet bond of friendship. I hope that my daughter and her BFF remain like this always, and even when they are older - that they still remain close! Can't wait to see what you create!

Brooke's Project inspired by ~ The Divine Secrets of the Ya, Ya sisterhood

I knew from the start that I was going to get my inspiration from the ya,ya's scrapbook. I love all the whimsical personality. The Sentiment GIRL POWER is so reflective of the movie.. All the ya, ya's are there for each other through think and thin.. The movie really comes full circle when Sidalee is asked to join the Ya, Ya's.. Only at this point does she really understand and start to love her mother and begin to live her life free from pain and anger towards her mother. This is SUCH a wonderful movie... It only shows that you really have to walk a 100 miles in someone's shoes to really understand who they are.

HAPPY FALL YA'LL

We are enjoying lovely temperatures of the high 80's here in Utah. Lets cross our fingers that we can keep the weather warm until Halloween. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE... I don't like trick or treating in the either freezing cold wind or SNOW for that matter...

What a COOL challenge the Iron Man was.. I had SOOOOO much fun creating a card for it.. I was really thrilled with the final result... Not to mention I have a male/boys card in my stash...

Nancy's card really incorporated many levels of the challenge and movie in her card.. First when you look at her card you get the color scheme first of.. Then the usage of the Metal for the challenge requirement is PERFECT for the movie challenge.. Last but not least the sentiment is what sealed the deal for me..

In the movie IRON MAN the main character Tony Stark(Robert Downey Jr.) struggles to find himself in the Stark industries world. Tony has to choose if he want to keep the company alive and continue his passion for invention and technology or party like a socialite..

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #96 - Ironman

Welcome to our 96th Challenge, where this week we are featuring the 2 time Oscar nominated 2008 movie: IronMan starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges, and Terence Howard. This movie is based on the Marvel Comic books character Ironman and is about a wealthy industrialist who builds a powerful "ironman" suit and becomes powerful superhero. This movie was hugely successful after its release and Downey was praised for his acting and his role as a superhero, which prompted the release of Ironman 2. For this challenge we thought it would be fun for the challenge to be to use something with Metal in your creations (a little bit of metal or alot of metal: this can be from sheets of aluminum, brads, bling, eyelets, metallic paper or ribbon etc.) Our guest designer this week is Jenny Peterson (Audrey winner from the Sleepy Hollow Cinema Challenge, with this gorgeous card). We can't wait for you to play along with us - here are our cards inspired by IronMan:

Brooke's Card inspired by the movie: Iron Man

I think my favorite part of the Iron Man series is watching the chemistry between Tony and Pepper... Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow or defiantly two of my favorites.. Robert can totally pull off the arrogant wealthy social-light and Gwyneth is so good at playing a strong but elegant women.

The little robot reminds me of Tony Stark's soft side.. He is forever taking Pepper Potts for granted and has to ask for her forgiveness. The 3 hearts are Tony and Peppers of course. The little metallic heart is Tony's Iron Man heart.. Pepper is always trying to keep all of Tony's hearts in check.. The color scheme is Iron Man inspired of course.. All the Silver reminds me of the FIRST Iron Man attempt..

WHAT A FUN CHALLENGE!

Sankari's Card inspired by the movie: Iron Man

I remember watching this movie and thinking that Robert Downey Jr. totally rocked the role of this Marvel comic book character Ironman - he was so good at the "dry" humor and more than anything, it was good to see him comeback from all the hard things he has gone through in his life. In creating this card, I thought I would make something inspired by Pepper Potts and IronMan - that they both say how they other is "all they have" - and so I thought I would make a little love card inspired by the "heart ring" that he has to wear in his heart. This is what it looks like:

and so I created my card inspired by that design and in the center of the heart I put a little flower inspired by the flowering love between Potts and Tony. The sentiment reads: "It's always been you":

The center of the flower has metal and both the black and gray are metallic sheets. It was fun to create a love card inspired by the movie. Can't wait to see what you create!!

Cinema Saturday Guest Designer Jenny:

Well, this was a hard challenge for me!!!! I am an Iron Man fan, but to make a card using an action film as inspiration..tough! I decided to go with a bit of a love story twist! I thought there was major chemistry between Tony Stark and his assistant, Pepper Potts, so I made a card that I might give to my sweetie ;)

The metal id

ea was fun to base the card design around. I used tinfoil over CS and ran it through my bigshot using a diamond plate embossing folder. I used tons of brads , eyelets and metal stickers along with rhinestones and gold glitter and stickles. The sentiment is supposed to look like dog tags (army influence in the movie). I had initially made the card using more of a burgundy shimmer CS (more the ironman red), but it wasn't working for me, so I went with a brighter red. The robot couple obviously symbolize the robotics in the movie. Well I guess thats about it!!

Hooray ya'll hope you had fun making a western card.. I know for both Sankari and myself it's totally out of our element. So what a fun challenge it was.. The highlight for me was finding out that we both used the same paper... "We are one soul" as Sankari has said to me from time to time.. Crazy how close we end up on challenges when there is so much distance between us.

We love all the little details you added to your western card.. The little Corduroy buttons, the lasso, Boot, the lonely stamp that finally saw the light of day again(love it... Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #95 - High Noon

Welcome everyone to our 95th Cinema Saturday Challenge, where this week we are featuring the 4 time Oscar winning movie: High Noon - starring Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly. We realized that we had never done a "western" before and wanted to honor this genre with this amazing movie. According to Wikipedia: "in 1989, High Noon was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" , entering the registry during the later's first year of existence. The film is #27 on the American Film Institute's 2007 list of great films." The challenge requirement for this is rather simple: to create a something that has a Western inspired feel.

*** If you haven't seen this movie, its really very powerful - some have called it one of the best Western movies of all time - one that tells a tale of civic responsibility without having frontier violence or tribes of marauding Indians. It tells the story of a lone marshall, who feels compelled by his duty to face dangerous criminals who come back to town to get rid of him at high noon, and as he turns to the town for help, everyone refuses him any assistance. This tale is one of internal struggle to do what is right, without any support from anyone - as you struggle with your own conscience.

Sankari's card inspired by the movie: High Noon:

This is one of my favorite all time movies - yes - you heard that right :)- I have watched this movie every year with my father ever since I was 15. My father loves this movie with Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly and so it became a tradition after a few times that we would watch it together every year. The opening song: "Do not forsake me O my Darling" is forever stuck in my heart - this song is the FIRST Oscar winning song that is not from a musical! There is something about Gary Cooper asking everyone for help and no one comes to his aid that really inspires me because he has to face these men by himself. He didn't run away from the conflict - he faced it head on, alone - and that just makes me admire Marshal Will Kane. In making my card, I decided to focus on Grace Kelly's character Amy. In this movie, Will marries Amy - who is a Quaker and therefore a pacifist - she refuses to help him as he returns to town to fight the criminals but in the end comes to his aid. I don't want to ruin the end for you - but her appearance and what she does which is 100% opposite to her belief is what saves his life. Grace Kelly later on became a "real" princess as she married the Prince of Monaco, and so this card is a tribute to that - as well as to the fact that she is definitely brave and comes to help.

I am not a very good "western" card maker, but I had fun playing with pink and making it a pink western card :) I hope that you all will play along - I know that Western movies is not a favorite genre for all people, but I promise that this one is really amazing - one of my all time faves -

Toni's card inspired by the movie: High Noon

This was a hard one for me as not watching the movie all the way through before had me at a disadvantage, but Hubby came through with his rundown of the movie. He's a movie buff and loves the westerns. The main inspiration for me was my card being black and white like the movie so I focused on the black and white movie era, the sheriff's role and his show down with the bad guys:

Brooke's Card inspired by the movie: High Noon

First things first.. Holy Batman baby we used the same paper. LOL Believe it on not I haven't had a chance to check the cinema blog sense Sankari and I chatted about the movie last Friday. I remember she said she was going to use the phrase Princess Cowgirl or something but that is all I remember. When I came to upload my card I today I got a little giggle... We used the same paper... Great minds think alike right?

This classic western is easy on the eyes that's for sure.. Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly can we say ATTRACTIVE!
Classic old movies also feature the good ole' Harry Morgan (Col Potter of M.A.S.H.) and Lloyd Bridges.

My inspiration came from the classic colors of a western with a Princess twist. I can help but see Grace as a Princess in what ever I watch... In the movie Amy( grace Kelly) is most defiantly not a princess but a simple quaker girl.. She is totally against all violence and doesn't want her new husband Will (Gary Cooper) to be the Marshal anymore. It take the whole movie to convince he that the wishes of his wife are the way to go.

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #94 - Sleepy Hollow

Welcome Everyone to our 94th Cinema Saturday challenge where this week we are marking the change of seasons as summer closes and fall leaves appear with featuring the movie from 1999: Sleepy Hollow (starring Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci). This Oscar winning movie (for Best Art Direction) captures the Legend of Sleepy Hollow with a Tim Burton feel to it - no one can take you into a different realm or put an alternate spin on reality quite like Tim Burton! You can read the whole plot summary here. The challenge requirement for this movie is to use a Halloween tree in your creation - Sleepy Hollow is full of woods - so we thought it would be fun to use the Halloween tree element in our challenge requirement today.

I saw this movie last year on t.v. for the first time and my first thought was WOW Christina Richi is so pretty as a blonde. She really has grown up. This was one of her big breakout rolls as a young lady and not as teen/child.. And Johnny is well Johnny in this movie.. There is somethings to say about a Depp/Burton movie.. You know it's going to be a little twisted and dark. The color in this movie are mesmerizing and has that same deep or should we say "DEPP" undertone that we have grown to love in the Burton/Depp movies...

If you are going into this movie thinking you follow along the same lines as the Disney store from 1949 then think again.. This has so much for DEPPth. If I was to create another card for this movie I think I would make a card with very sublet color and use more grey tones.. So many option for this challenge.. Enjoy getting in the Halloween spirit enjoy the show.

Sankari's Card inspired by the movie~ Sleepy Hallow

First of all - A HUGE thank you to everyone for their beautiful birthday wishes and cards - you guys completely surprised me and I can't even begin to thank you for making my birthday so special - thank you Brooke for your beautiful wishes, for organizing the little blog party yesterday and for being my sistah-girlfriend - I feel SO lucky to have friend like you!!! A big highfive to Nancy K. for guessing that today's movie might have a little Johnny Depp flavor to it :))) Ha! You know us toooo well! I am not a scary movie kinda girl, but am willing to watch anything that has Johnny Depp in it :) The main thing that I wanted to create in the card was a feeling of the mist, and dark woods of Sleepy Hollow where the Headless Horseman rides - I wish I could have figured out how to add wispy white mists without smearing the card. I stamped and embossed the trees on a metallic silver paper and the bottom and top part of the card use black shimmery chunky glitter paper:

I LOVE Johnny Depp in this movie - really - he is SO Tim Burtonesque and brings a whole other dimension to how he plays and portrays Ichabod Crane. And Kristinia Ricci (wow! she is so blonde!) really shows the depth of her acting skills. I hope that you enjoy creating a card to this movie! The crispness of fall is in the air and I am so excited to get out our sweaters and go for some hikes (but definitely NOT in woods like the ones from Sleepy Hollow - LOL!!)

Guest Designer: Virginia's Card inspired by the movie~ Sleepy Hollow

"The western woods in Sleepy Hollow are very intriguing and oddly mysterious. The movie opens with a scene of Ichabod Crane venturing into them, unaware of the unexplained and eerie events that are about to take place. Therefore, I chose to focus on the tree scene and the haunting, enchanting atmosphere of the woods. I used the Hero Arts Scroll tree stamp and embossed the image in white.

Then I distressed the card with two colors of inks and misted it with gold glimmer mist. I finished the card with a bow with raffia as I think it is fitting for a fall theme. I also added lace for a feminine touch. Women's clothing was so much finer in detail and with lace in the 1800s. I hope you enjoy making a Sleepy Hollow inspired project as much as I did. This card is perfect for a Fall/ thinking of you theme (if not for Halloween)."

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #93 ~ ANNIE

Annie! This broadway musical turned movie was based on the comic strip of the adventures of Orphan Annie and was nominated for two Oscars. The songs in this movie have continued in popularity as numerous of schools and production companies continue to perform their own Annie musical. For ourchallenge requirement, we went with the obvious :), to use some red accents (it can be a little or a whole lot!!!) that is inspired by some part of the movie!

Here is Brooke's clip pick from the movie:" I picked this little snippet because it was my most favorite part of the movie when I was younger.. We even got to do this very scene in dancing and all in Jr high for choir... xoxo~ Brooke

When I was searching for Friday's sneak peek photos I finally decided on my inspiration for this card... Annie's dress!

RED with black and white trim. GOOD LUCK to you all there are soooo many cute thing to get inspiration from.. I really wanted to incorporate the locket as well hence the little hearts on my card.. The I love you is for the sweetest and funniest part of the movie.. The sweetest part of of course the "I LOVE YOU DADDY WARBUCKS"! & "I LOVE YOU ANNIE".. The funny part is the way the little orphans tell Ms. Hannigan "We love you Ms. Hannigan" And she never believes then... The Congrats is on the grand uniting of a family... CONGRATS on the adoption of Annie.

Sankari's Card inspired by the movie: Annie
I remember watching this movie way back when and always remembering that "the sun will come out tomorrow" and that always made me feel good - that no matter HOW hard (or maybe I should say, how "hard-knocked" ;) your day was, there is always tomorrow! So I thought I would create that very sentimented card with a little red Annie dress (cut out of felt) and create a simple little card that you can give to someone if they are having a rough day:

Who is your favorite character from the movie? It used to be Annie and Miss Hannigan used to scare me - she seemed so mean. Well, watching it while making this card, I actually grew very fond of Carol Burnett's characterization of Miss Hannigan - seriously - she is hilarious (and still mean) but somehow watching this movie now makes me have a special fondness for Ms. Hannigan (she is so hilarious - Carol Burnett is a genius!).

I loved making this card - and anything to do with Annie always makes me feel happy and makes me look forward to tomorrow and all of its possibilities.

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #92 - Napoleon Dynamite

Welcome Everyone to our 92nd movie challenge where this week we are featuring the 2004 movie Napoleon Dynamite, which won 10 awards including a Grammy! As everyone starts back to school, we thought it would fun to do this movie because its "flippin sweet"! If you haven't seen this movie - it might seem strange at first because its almost like a different quirky world that you get transported to as you see things in the eyes of Napoleon, but we are sure that it will have you laughing - and maybe even make you want to dance along with Napoleon in one special dance scene that is definitely memorable!!! The challenge requirement this week is to create a card with a pocket or a container card - but the MOST important thing is to completely have FUN!!!! We hope you will get your dance groove on as you get ready for fall and play along with our Napoleon Dynamite challenge!!!!

Brooke's Project inspired by the movie~ Napoleon Dynamite

This is Napoleon backpack that he found at the D.I.(local thrift shop) he thought it was FLIPPIN' SWEET... (Which is a total UTAH/IDAHO~ ism..)

What would Napoleon fill in this said backpack of his... Well CHAPSTICK of course because "My Lips hurt real bad" as he would say... Napoleon being the groovy nerd that he is would take the time to pick out very special pencils.. So I found some that honored Napoleon...

"OH MY HECK" (another UTAH/IDAHO~ism). Napoleon would have also pick out a few items for his locker.. These magnets should do the trick. That way he can have a picture of his favorite brother KIP who reminds him daily that he had mad computer skills and "Don't be Jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day Napoleon..."

Have you ever seen a LIGER? I have.. We have a stuffed on at a museum here in Utah.. I remember seeing SHASTA as it was called when I was little.. "Liger's are Mystical creators you know". ( at least Napoleon thinks so)

This movie is one of those cult movies you just don't get the first time you see it.. But even days later you find yourself laughing at a line or scene from the movie and you get sucked into watching it again and laughing your head of... This movie cracks me up the little town of Preston, Idaho is just over the border from Utah.. So basically this little town was just like any little town in Utah.. Any yes the saying are really said.. Like HECK YA instead of HELL YA. You wouldn't want to swear now would you.. LOL. One of my favorite scenes of all time is Napoleon doing the dance for Pedro's campaign.. Laugh you butt(as we would say in Utah/Idaho~ism's) funny. John Header is such an amazing character actor.. How could you not laugh you pants of while making this movie...

Sankari's Project inspired by the movie~ Napoleon Dynamite

CONFESSION TIME: The first time that I sat down to watch this movie - I thought I would REALLY NOT like it - I found the first 15 minutes SO strange and told my DH that I thought this movie was really NOT my style - but by the end of the movie - I was totally cracking up and absolutely love this movie! There are so many memorable quotes from this movie - all that crack me up in different ways - but my favorite quote would have to be when Napoleon starts to list the "flippin' sweet" skillz that girls like guys to have"like Numchuck skills, Bowhunting Skills, computer hacking skills" LOL!!!! I still laugh and even as I am typing those skills - I can totally hear Napoleon's voice in my head saying those words. So I printed out the graphics of the three skills and then created this card with three pockets for them:

I absolutely can't tell you HOW much fun I had making this card - it was so nice to watch little snippets of this video and totally crack up while crafting :)

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #91: Gandhi

Welcome to our 91st Cinema challenge - where this week we are featuring the 8 time Oscar winning movie (including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor in a leading role..) released in 1982: GANDHI. Since August 15th (tomorrow) is the celebration of the Indian Independence Day from British Rule and the day that India was born as a sovereign nation - we thought it would we could honor this celebration by featuring this movie that follows the life of MK Gandhi and shows how he was transformed from a lawyer in South Africa to become a national leader in the move for Independence and a national treasure. This movie is beyond inspirational - it shows the multi-level complexity in the struggle for Independence - but more than anything it shows how the simplicity of truth and conviction in one person's heart - changed a nation forever.

"Generations to come, it may well be, will scarce believe that such a man as this one ever in flesh and blood walked upon this Earth."- Einstein

There are so many lovely and inspiring quotes in this movie (not just from Gandhi-ji) and so we thought for our challenge requirement today - we could "Quote it Up" . Use a quote that is inspired from the movie in your creation! If you haven't seen this movie its a definite must!

When I think of Gandhi I think of simplicity and the color white. Gandhi is such a dedicated example of peace with out violence.. When in South Africa he was unfairly treated because he was an Indian... He lead a non-violent movement to gain equal rights for the Indian people in South Africa. Gandhi was invited to return home and help bring India's it's Independence from the British Empire. Gandhi agrees and again approached the effort without violence. He faced many troubles along the way and is even imprisoned.

When India is trying to define who was during the early years of it's rebuild as a nation there is a huge conflict between the Hindus and the Muslims.. It erupts into a nation-wide violent upheaval. Gandhi declares a hunger strike, saying he will not eat until the fighting stops..

A defining moment for me is Gandhi's conviction to non-violence.. He will forever live in his example of peace and wisdom.

I hope you all enjoy this movie and leave enlightened with peace and a new way to solve conflict as I did.

I remember the first time I watched this movie was sitting in between my parents at the historic Senator theater in Maryland when the movie came out. I was almost 9 years old at the time (way too little for certain parts of the movie where there is fighting) but watching that movie with my parents and a whole theater full of Indian people on Independence day left a deep impression. I watched my parents cry, I heard those around me sing with certain parts of the movie and clap when Independence was announced and at the end of the movie - we all stood as one and applauded. I have watched it again and again since that early age of 9 and every single time I have been moved in a different way. The courage and conviction to stand against the might of the British Empire - in the most simple way - to not raise arms and fight - still gives me goosebumps and inspires me.
What Gandhi-ji (btw- to add "ji" at the end of his name is a way to show respect - kinda like adding a mr. before a name) did was to show the inhumane-ness of violence when no one strikes back. I love the quote of his: " An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind". But then I also love this quote: "Be the change you wish to see in the world." and was so excited to see it in rubber (from Unity stamps).
The ribbon is white twill that is inspired by Gandhi-ji's movement for home spun cotton so that it wasn't being imported from Britain and also for his simplicity of cloth, home and food. The hearts for me symbolize the love of a nation and the colors are more of an earth tone - the way that he was with Mother India. I loved making this card and loved watching this movie again with my parents before I made this card.

One thing that I will say is that there are some parts that are hard for me to watch - even now -but I thought that director Richard Attenborough really honored India and Gandhi in the making of this movie -and Ben Kingsley's portrayal of Gandhi is amazing!

Welcome everyone... This weeks challenge is to add a little Sparkle or Bling to your creation... For some of us this is not a challenge at all.. I think the challenge might me to not add any sparkle or bling... This is such a fun move to watch and create a card too. Have fun and and enjoy the show..

The tiny English village of Wall has a secret. Through a gap in the town's old stone wall lies the kingdom of Stormhold, a magical realm of spells, unicorns and witches. Brooke's Card inspired by the movie ~ STARDUST.

My inspiration for the card started with the sparkle of course... My own personal inspiration started with the dresses that Yvaine(Claire Danes) wore in the move.. When the star(Yvaine) falls down to earth she is wearing a gorgeous grey/silver satin dress. Then when Yvaine and Tristan are rescued by a ship of lighting pirates she is given a pick of any dress she wants from the captions(Robert De Niro) own personal stash... LOL She picked a gorgeous Royal Blue dress. The crown represents the brothers fight for the crown. The stick pin represents the stone around Yvaine that will turn into a Ruby when the last prince becomes king.. You will have to watch to find out who will become king... Last but not Least the star is an obvious inspiration Yvaine.. In the Beginning Tristan tells the girl that he thinks he loves(Victoria) that he will cross the wall and get her the fallen star to proved his love to her.. But when he meets the star the story takes a twist...

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #89 - Casino Royale

Welcome to our 89th Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge, where this week we are featuring the James Bond movie: Casino Royale (2006) with Daniel Craig as the most recent James Bond. This movie pits James Bond into a winning a high stakes poker Tournament at the Casino Royale in Montenegro in order to stop the "bad guys" and we see all the traditional suave moves of 007 in a high tech movie. This week's challenge requirement is to use to a silhouette in your creation, inspired by the movie. We can't wait to see your silhouetted Bond creations!

This week we are joined by the creative and amazing Nancy and her gorgeous creation! Nancy was our Audrey girl for the CSCC#87- The Holiday!

Sankari's card inspired by the movie: Casino Royale

At first, I wasn't sure about Daniel Craig as James Bond - I mean Connery is such a classic and my favorite was Brosnan, but as the movie wore on and there were a few shots of the newest James Bond emerging from the water.... I must say that I was definitely impressed by the newest Bond :) The whole movie takes place around a high stakes poker game and we see how James Bond became James Bond. My favorite thing about this movie was watching all the James Bondisms - his one liners, the high tech spy ware, the nice crisp suits and of course waiting to hear him say "Bond...James Bond". :)) I created this card based on this graphic of Bond walking away with cards flying about and this graphic:

I added the sentiment "I hit the Jackpot with you!" and threw in some poker chips and can't wait to give this to my sweet DH! I loved making this card - it was simple and quick and its always fun to make a card of a movie, while you are watching the movie :)

Nancy's card inspired by the movie: Casino Royale

This week over at Cinema Saturday, the lovely cinema sisters are hosting 007 himself with this:

I have been a James Bond film fan for quite sometime, I think it helps having a Sean Connery fan for a mom, and a dad who loves action flicks. The one thing that has changed over the years is my favorite Bond; It started out as Roger Moore (must have been an 80's thing), then I recognized that Connery was the best Bond, but Pierce Brosnan does a pretty good job too. Frankly, when I first saw Casino Royale, I wasn't completely sold on Daniel Craig, I put him somewhere between Timothy Dalton and Roger Moore (not a great ranking). However, after watching it again for this challenge, I got it, and Daniel Craig has boosted to tie the top spot with Sean Connery.

Casino Royale like most other 007 films is a well-rounded film filled with action, romance, comedy, suspense, and drama -it's got it all! You get a good guy, the boss, the evil bad guy, the potentially double-crossing sidekick, the potentially double-crossing girl, beautiful clothes, beautiful settings, fast cars...really everything you could want.

For this challenge, I drew my inspiration from the main character himself: Bond, James Bond. The color of his clothes (black & white -tuxes, shirts, jackets), his car (silver), and his eyes (oh so blue!). I also tried to capture the essence of 007 opening film credits with the silhouette and lots of circles. I used brads for hardware, and printed off a birthday greeting appropriate for the theme.

BROOKE'S card inspired by the movie ~ Casino Royal

Who doesn't love a goon BOND movie... Even with all the years of watching them marathon style with my dad I still LOVE James Bond... When I think of Bond.. I think of Shaun of course.. Shaun Connery... Heart beating past... My D.H. is really enjoying the new Bond Daniel Craig.. And I agree with him for sure.. He really makes the secret agent thing work for him quite nicely... It's defiantly easier to buy that he is a spy and not just a ladies man... This Bond gets tortured, has real blood and scars, and gets down and dirty and still comes out on top... The new Bond movies have GREAT actions scenes... Hope they hurry up and make a new one....

This weekend is my D.H.'s Birthday so this card is for him.. Totally fitting for my man of mystery... He is 007 and melts my heart... I am LUCKY to have him. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Happy Friday everyone!

Thanks to our 4 super start players this week.. We LOVE you...

This weekend we are Celebration a Birthday at our house.. My D.H. We don't just celebrate 1 day he will be celebration the WHOLE weekend. Believe it or not it's usually a whole week.. We are make up for the fact that her didn't really celebrate when he was a kid... So we are off to have fun with the family... It's also Utah's state holiday. HAPPY PIONEER DAY!

Hope all of our Stampin' Up girls that are LUCKY enough to be at convention are having fun.. My heart is with you all. I am only 30 minutes away but I didn't go this year... Post pictures PLEASE!!!

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #88 ~ Best In Show

Welcome Everyone to our 88th Cinema Saturday Challenge, where this week we are featuring the 2000 Golden Globe nominated movie: "BEST IN SHOW" which is a docu-parody with an all-star cast. This movie is hilarious and is a comedic parody of documentaries and shows the underbelly of a dog show :) There are so many fun themes in this movie: man's best friend, congratulations cards, best in show themes, etc. We thought it would be fun for the challenge requirement this week to create a paper accordion medallion to have in our card/creation. Kelly Lunceford totally rocks the paper accordion medallions and has created a tutorial on how to make them or even check out this video tutorial on how to make them on Youtube. If you haven't seen this movie - get ready to laugh - it is so understated and the acting by Eugene Levy, Christopher Guest, Jane Lynch, Jennifer Coolidge to list a few is HILARIOUS! We hope you will join us this week and play along with us!

BROOKE'S Card inspired by the movie... BEST IN SHOW

This card is for the cutest dog trainer I know... My ZACHY....Come check him out on my blog...

One of the funniest scenes in this movie comes from Fred Willard's character the dog show announcer.. He says... "To think in some countries these dogs are eaten" What kind of person would say that... This character has all sorts of kooky knowledge he shares throughout the show... Best in Show has so many big name actors that will make you laugh. Their character acting is hilarious. Here are just a few~ Eugene Levi, Jane Lynch, Catherine O'Hara, Fred Willard, Jennifer Coolidge, Etc.

I think it's funny how people take on the characteristics of their dog/pet... or do think people pick dogs/pets that match their personality? If that's the case.. I am a little lazy old man who can't do tricks and doesn't share a dang thing... LOL!

SANKARI'S Card inspired by the movie... BEST IN SHOW

I love this movie! That's all I can say! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the acting and I always just crack up at the subtlety of the humor and nuances of the actors (not to mention that the doggies are so cute!). I think my two favorite character's in this movie is Jane Lynch's character (she is simply hilarious) and Eugene Levy's character who has two left feet (no, for real he has two left feet! :) I think one of my favorite moments is when he had to walk or "show" his cutie terrier around at the end and he was nervous because of his two left feet (lol!) but he did it and not to give away the movie - but let's just say the terrier's parents were so happy! So inspired by Eugene Levy's character's accomplishment of walking and showing his dog with two left week, ic reated this card with the sentiment: "So dog-gone happy for you" from Taylored Expressions and paired it with this cutie little doggie who looks like a terrier to me :)

I created a little stand for him and used some dimensionals to pop him up. The background is stamped with the cute paw print and bone image and i of course had to add some liquid pearls :) This movie is just so much fun to watch and I hope you have a chance to play along with us this week!!!

Happy Friday Everyone!!!

We hope you have all had a great week... What fun it was looking through all the Christmas cards.. Don't know about you all but by the time Christmas comes.. I am so far behind on Christmas cards.. We LOVED the little cottage door it was a perfect match!!! Great touch on the frosted Coco background paper as well.. This card just made us want to snuggle up and read a Christmas story and sip on hot coco... To bad it's over 100 degrees where we both live! LOL

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #87 ~ The Holiday

Welcome everyone to our 87th challenge, where this week we thought it would be fun to do a CHRISTMAS IN JULY challenge and feature the lovely movie: "THE HOLIDAY" (2006) with an amazing cast. You don't have to make a holiday card of course - it could be a card about friendship, about love, etc - but if you wanted to make some holiday cards - what a perfect movie to do it to! This movie is about what happens when two women switch their homes during the holidays and fall in love with a guy from that area. The challenge requirement this week is to use eyelets and we can't wait to see what you come up with. Here is a trailer to this movie if you haven't seen it before:

Who doesn't need a little Christmas in July..

The short and long of it all~ Two girls who have men trouble.... Swap homes. One in the US and the other in England. They each meet local guy to fall in love with.

I LOVE the movie "The Holiday" What a phenomenal cast.. I had only been home from England for a short while when this movie came out.. What torture this was. Our sweet friend was visiting from England and wanted to go to this movie... Twist my arm... What fun we had... When I was thinking about what to make the little cottage that IRIS lived in came to mind. So I just had to use this little cottage stamp from Stampin' Up.

So much happens inside and out of this little cottage. Snow was a huge part of the humor in this movie.. I can just picture Amanda slipping and sliding on the snow in her high heels. Or Iris crying her guts out over a huge looser named Jasper... My favorite part of the England half of the movie is the Gorgeous house that Graham owns( I WANT IT!!) and the beautiful children he has.. Mister Napkin Head is such a sweet highlight... My Favorite part of the US half of the movie is the trio of Iris, Arthur and Miles.. I love how Iris and Miles fall for each other over their genuine admiration for Arthur. I love watching their relationship/friendship grow... Everyone deserves to find their perfect match. The one who loves to watch the same movies, vacation the same place, encourages you to be your best etc...

I hope you all enjoy this weeks movie. Have fun with a little CHRISTMAS IN JULY!!

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #86 - Bend it Like Beckham

Welcome everyone to our 86th Challenge, where this week - in honor of the World Cup as it approaches the Quarterfinals and onto the finals in week, we are featuring the 2002 movie: "Bend it like Beckham" which was an independent british film that surprised and exceeded everyone's expectations by the global fan based that it created after its release. It touches on so many universal themes even though its about a Sikh girl's love off soccer in Britain - and how she has to figure out how to live her dreams and live the life that her family has planned out for her. Here is a lovely plot summary from IMDb:

"A comedy about bending the rules to reach your goal, Bend It Like Beckham explores the world of women's football, from kick-abouts in the park to freekicks in the Final. Set in Hounslow, West London and Hamburg, the film follows two 18 year olds with their hearts set on a future in professional soccer. Heart-stopping talent doesn't seem to be enough when your parents want you to hang up your football boots, find a nice boyfriend and learn to cook the perfect chapatti."

If you haven't seen this movie - its really a lovely sweet movie to watch. The director and crew created magic with their limited budget. This movie gave actors like: Keira Knightly and Jonathan Rhys-Meyer more exposure. Jerry Bruckheimer saw Keira in this movie and then cast her in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie saga. Paraminder Nagra the main character went on to play Dr. Neela Rasgotra on ER. In a lot of ways, this movie opened up the careers for these wonderful actors. There are so many themes for inspiration in this movie (aside from soccer of course :):

BROOKE'S project inspired by the movie "Bend It Like Beckham"

LOVE this movie.. I can't tell you how many times I have created project while watching this movie.. I love cross culture movies. We all live in such a new and exciting world with so many opportunities. What would you do if you were a young girl who would rather play soccer/football than learn how to cook a full Indian dinner or find a husband? How would you feel if your mother was always trying to get you to wear a skirt of wear stop playing the sport you love.. This is a heart warming movie that will take you on their journey to find out who they are and help their families to understand who they are as well.

I know you are thinking WHAT does this have to do with a soccer/football movie.. When let me tell you... Jess is a beautiful young girl who is just emerging into a young woman. She is discovering what she love and what she want to do with her life. What better than Butterflies to represent coming into a new life. When we are young we are protected from the world by our parents and when we emerge as young adults and start to make our own choices we find out who we really are. SANKARI'S card inspired by the movie "Bend It Like Beckham"

I can't even tell you how in SOOOO many ways - this story is SO much like my life growing up!! I loved watching this when it came out!!! Growing up Indian in another culture that had so many different values was difficult during the teenage years (my mom can tell you all about it!!) I have played soccer since I was very little and when I was 11 - joined the school teams and played through the college years. I absolutely love soccer and have just loved watching it through this World Cup (and even though my favorite team Brasil is not advancing - I am enjoying watching every game :) I love seeing the main character: Jess and to see her love for soccer and how she realizes that she is good and wants to pursue this in a college across the ocean from her parents, who are conservative and have different values for her - and she still has faith in her dreams coming true, she also tries to balance honoring her family and her faith.

So my card is inspired by this quality of faith - in believing in your dreams, the "knowing" and holding on through the periods darkness in your life. I made this card a circle in honor of the soccer ball (hee :), I used rich colors to represent the Indian culture, the flower represents her blossoming into herself and the sentiment represents the faith that she has in her self and in the very end - how this is a faith that her father also has in her and supports her dreams.

I hope you have a chance to play along with this very sweet movie!!!

Guest Designer: PRISCILLA'S card inspired by the movie "Bend It Like Beckham"

"Bend it Like Beckham" is a heartwarming movie about a teenage girl who is struggling with her Indian traditions and her dream of becoming a world-class soccer player. In the movie, Jess, the main character (played by Parminder K. Nagra), is befriended by another girl, Jules (played by Keira Knightly), who recruits her to play on a real soccer team, gives her support and encouragement, and shares her love of the game. The relationship of these two girls is where I got the inspiration for my card. Even though Jess has a real sister in the movie, the ‘sisterhood’ bond that stood out and inspired me was the one between Jess and Jules. I don’t think you have to be blood sisters to feel the bond of sisterhood!

The challenge requirement this week, along with inspiration from the movie, is to create a card in any shape other than A2!! These days I pretty much always do square cards so this was right up my alley!! :) I used another image from Mo's Digital Pencil: 'Sisters'. As soon as I saw this image, I knew it was the perfect one for this challenge! I usually like to start with my background paper and color to coordinate with that, but this time I just started coloring and then had to hunt to find some paper. :) I'm not very adept at Copics yet, but decided to give them a try for this challenge. It worked pretty well, but the color I used for the older girl's top just wasn't working...so I fixed it by paper piecing with a coordinating paper - ooaallaa!! A little shading with my Prismacolor pencils and blending with OMS completed the coloring portion. The background paper was so 'busy' that I didn't want to add too much in the way of embellishment, so I just used some paper lace in one strip then scrunched some of that same paper lace to form a backing for my hand written sentiment: "My sister, my friend". I added a couple of Dew Drops to the bottom and some Star Dust Stickles (the best Stickles color in my opinion because it just adds sparkle, not color!) to the blue shoes, barrette & to the lace around the sentiment....there's just something I can't resist about adding some "sparkle"!!

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #85 - State Fair

Welcome Everyone to our 85th Challenge, where this week we are featuring the Rodgers and Hammerstein movie musical: State Fair. All over the country, you might have seen ads for the State Fair in your local state. We thought it would be fun to mark this summery event by featuring this movie!!! You might not have see this movie - but its just a fun and lovely classic - although the original movie was made in 1933 (and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture, many people prefer the 1945 remake: State Fair movie which on an Oscar (for best original musical) over the second remake which was created in 1962.

In a gist, this movie is about: Well - here is a little summary from Wikipedia:

The Frake family heads off for the Iowa State Fair - each with their own hopes for the trip. Mother Melissa (Fay Bainter) hopes her mincemeat will beat a rival's. Father Abel (Charles Winninger) is bringing his prize boar, Blue Boy, to show. Their son Wayne (Dick Haymes) has a lesson to teach to one of the game barkers, and is upset when his girl can't go to the fair this year. And Margie (Jeanne Crain) just wants something to pull her out of her melancholy mood, as portrayed in the song, "It Might as Well Be Spring".

Each member of the family has their own adventures in store during their days at the fair, returning to the family camper each evening with their own thoughts and secrets. Margie spends her days and evenings with newspaper writer Pat (Dana Andrews)... will he be the change she's looking for? Wayne woos singer Emily (Vivian Blaine); how will that affect his relationship with the girl back home?

Our wonderful designer this week is Lynne who won the Audrey Award with this creation from Alice in Wonderland movie challenge. She suggested to us that it would be fun to have the challenge requirements be pennants!!! That definitely has a very "State Fair" kinda feeling - so for your creations - feel free to use as many or as little pennants as you would like!

***Also - we realize that this is not a mainstream movie that everyone can find - but there are a few clips from Youtube of some of the songs from this movie - so you might find some inspiration there - from the colors, to some of the lyrics of the song, to the dresses/costumes, to the background, etc. - hope that helps the creative process :))))

Our dearest Brooke is out on a wonderful adventure this weekend and will join us when she returns!

Sankari's Creation inspired by the movie: State Fair:

I have always loved musicals - its just so part of the Indian movie culture to suddenly and seamlessly burst forth into song and dance and then resume everyday dialogue, that watching musicals always just leave me feeling happy :) That was the whole feeling for me from this movie - it is just a simple, light and sweet musical - so my inspiration came from the general feeling of the movie that "life is good" - so I created this card with the sentiments: "Life is Good" and "Celebrate" (stamps from Taylored Expressions) and created the hanging pennants (also from TE) where some are paper pieced and some are colored in (for more details - please check out my blog!)

I have always loved going to the State Fair (can I just say two words: "Funnel Cake" YUM!) and it was fun to watch this movie and see how everyone comes together and celebrates at the State Fair! Can't wait to take my kids when the Fair comes to our town! yay!

I hope you have a chance to play along this week - its such a fun movie and so summery - and who doesn't love pennants!!! Can't wait to see your spectacular creations!

Guest Designer Lynne's Creation inspired by the movie: State Fair:

As a girl in Oregon, I was in 4-H and had to enter items to compete in the state fair, and even had to bake muffins in a test kitchen with the judges on the other side of the window! I also live in Perry, which is the home of the annual Georgia National Fair which draws almost half a million people each year - it's wonderful! And did you know that almost any kind of food you can think of is available at the fair, on a stick? Who knew?!! So it was the mom and dad entering the competitions that really inspired me.

I never had to do livestock in 4-H as we were a "town" chapter, plus I don't have a pig stamp, and I really empathized with Melissa's goal of a blue ribbon for her mincemeat pie!

Welcome everyone... I know this is a little crazy to have all the sneaks all at once but we are both out of town this weekend with our families..

Thank You to EVERYONE who played along with us with Father of the Bride - thank you for sharing your stories, your pictures and your precious moments with us!!! What a treasure to read!!! Your creations are simply gorgeous!!! One card that caught our attention was Priscill's beautiful card of the father/daughter dancing with each other - what a way to capture the beautiful relationship between Steve Banks and his beloved daughter Annie (it reminded us of the way he sees her as his little girl and even though she is doing "big girl things" like getting married - she is still his little girl!!
