Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #29 - To Catch a Thief

Welcome to our 29th Challenge - where this week we are featuring the 1955 Oscar winning movie starring Cary Grant and Grace Kelley - To Catch a Thief. This beautiful movie was directed by Alfred Hitchcock and is a beautiful blend of mystery, intrigue, humour, wit and of course romance. It won an Oscar for best cinematography. IMDb describes this movie beautifully as having "excellent cinematography designed to show off the beauties of Monte Carlo--all packaged in a lightweight tale that is two parts romance, two parts travelogue, one part comedy, and just enough classic Hitchcock suspense to keep this lighter-than-air confection from flying apart." You can catch the original trailer for the movie here.

Who can forget the beautiful Grace Kelley (the later became Princess Grace of Monaco) and her exquisite outfits, the beautiful jewelry pieces and the witty interchange of dialogue between all the characters in this romantic mystery. We loved all the layers within this movie as the mystery behind who the thief is gets uncovered - so we thought - that the

Requirement for this week is to have
fun with using layers in your card!

Brooke's Card inspired by the movie To Catch a Thief:

I have posted a photo of the inspiration piece on my blog you can check it out here.

What a classic Romantic Mystery... I love a good Alfred Hitchcock movie... I think the funniest part of this movie is waiting for Hitchcock to make his cameo.. In this movie he is sitting on the bus next to Cary Grant for about 10 min....

You have to love this catch line I found on Imdb...

WANTED by the police in all the luxury-spots of Europe!... A catch for any woman!

A classic 50 line don't you think... You have to love it! I hope you all enjoy wrapping yourself up in all the {LAYERS} of this movie as we did.

Hugs,
Brooke

Sankari's Card Inspired by the movie: To Catch a Thief

First of all - there are so many things about this movie that I love and was inspired by that its hard to find one thing to make a card from - and having said that - as soon as I saw the golden ball gown at the end of the movie - I knew I wanted to make a card inspired by that dress! Grace Kelley is just stunning in this movie - her outfits are just gorgeous and flowy and beautiful! I remember watching this movie a long long time ago and just admiring her every move and that her name Grace was so true to her form - she really epitomizes Grace itself! I was just blown away by her golden gown at the end of the movie at the ball - wow - what a dress - I loved the butterflies (also golden) along her dress - and so I created my card - inspired by the golden dress at the end.

The sentiment that I chose was - What would I do without you. **** Spoiler alert In the last scene of the movie - Grace Kelly asks Cary Grant - what he would have done without her help and he acknowledges that he needed her assistance more than he realized. I love that there are so many parts of the dialouge that are extempor - and the wit between the characters just tickles me!

You can check out my blog for more details!
Thank you all for playing along and also for guessing along! We really look forward to fridays!
Hugs to all!
Sankari

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #28 - The Lion King

Welcome Everyone to our 28th Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge - where this week we are featuring: the Lion King. YAY! Erika guessed right that the first sneak peek looked kinda animated and she went on to guess the Lion King - you so rock! All of you sooo rock with your guessing - its always so much fun for us to be part of the guessing game on Friday nights with the sneak peeks for Saturday's movie!

This is our first animated movie to feature (we did do The Nightmare Before Christmas around Halloween/Christmas time - but that was more claymation). The Lion King is a two time Oscar winning (for best musical score "The Circle of Life" and "Can You Feel the Love Tonight") movie that still holds the record as the highest grossing traditionally animated movie that is more. According to Wikipedia, there is a very strong influence in The Lion King of Shakespeare's Hamlet.

We wanted to do something different this week for the requirement for the challenge. This week's requirement this week is to use an animal or animals inspired by the movie The Lion King. (We hope that this requirement is not a hard one - but a fun one!)
We also have a special Guest Designer this week: our very own dear Carol Dunstan!

Sankari's Card Inspired by the movie: The Lion King

One of my favorite relationships that are explored in this movie is that between Simba and his father. There is a scene where Simba asks his father: We'll be together always, right? and his father tells him to look up at the stars and he will see that the great kings of the past are always there to guide him and so is he.... I always loved that part... just the connection between generations that is there and that love that is always there forever - and how the blessings of the ancestors are there to guide you in your path today.... so I took this inspiration to create my card: Together Forever.

You can check out more details on my blog (later on today :)
Hugs to all,
Sankari

Carol's Card Inspired by the movie: The Lion King

The Lion King has been a long-time favourite for me, so I was thrilled when asked to be a guest designer for it. I was about 18 when I first saw TLK and initially thought "urgh, a kids movie?" but Timon and Pumbaa won me over, particularly with their distraction of the hyenas during the fight to regain Pride Rock. I;ll quite often start singing this at random, and have got my kids hooked on it too - so this just to be the scene I was going to base my card on!
You can check out more details on Carol's Blog: Inkantations and Inspirations!
Thanks so much Carol for being our Guest Designer!!! We always love your creatively infused creations!!!

We were swept away with your My Fair Lady cards - so beautiful and lovely or "loverly" as Eliza would say! We had a really hard time picking one - but one that caught our attention was Carol's elegantly clean and simple: It's Time to Bloom card. We just loved the elegance and the tones and patterns and the simply beautiful sentiment. Thank you so much Carol - your work is just beautiful and we are so please that you could be our Guest Designer today!!!

There were so many delicious entries from last week's movie: Chocolat - that it was sooo hard for us to pick one ... you guys really made our sweet tooth hunger for more sweet treats with all your lovely creations!!! One card that caught our attention was from Chat Noir -  who created a lovely illusion of a chocolate box - with this lovely Chocolate Box Love you card ! Thank you so much for playing along and we hope both of you display your Audrey's proudly on your side bar! And a big thank you to all of you who play along with us! You are all an inspiration!!!

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #27 - "Chocolat"

Welcome to the 27th Cinema Saturday Challenge!! YAY! First of all - many of you were right on in your guesses from this week's sneak peeks that the movie that we are featuring this week is the 2000 release known as Chocolat! This movie is based on the novel Chocolat by Joanne Harris and tells the story of a mother and daughter who wander into a small French town, opening up a chocolaterie store where the sweet confections have the powers to heal, inspire and strengthen. They encounter some skepticism and resistance from the morality holders in the community, but heal and inspire the community through the love that is within the sweet confections and through their healing touch. This movie was up for 5 Academy Awards including best actress Juliet Binoche.

This week's requirement is to use some sweet image in your card... anything that you would like from chocolates to cupcakes - just have fun with some sweet images for your card!

We would like to wish all of you a Happy Spring and Happy Easter! Have fun creating a card for this movie - and if you haven't seen it - we can't wait to hear what you think of this movie and we can't wait to see your creations!

Sankari's Card Inspired by Chocolat

Well there are two reasons why I love this movie: Johnny Depp and chocolates! lol! I think it was last week that I was thinking that it would be just awesome to have a Johnny Depp chocolate figure - now that would be combining two loves into one yummy result!!! I really love this movie also for the love that it inspires. In every story there is a love story... and Vianne (Juliette Binoche's Character) inspires that love story to be fulfilled. Wheather its the love for the grandmother to be able to see her grandson, or the passion to be rekindled in a marriage, or for two eldery people to find their way to each other's hearts or about self love - where a person has the courage to stand up for themselves. In every story in this movie, there is a beautiful love story that is waiting to blossom and be fulfilled.

The sentiment on the card reads: love is sweet. Because all through the movie, the different love stories show the sweetness of love. I think my favorite have to be the chocolate beans that she buys for her husband!

For more details you can check out my blog!
Hugs to all!
Sankari :)

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #26 "My Fair Lady"

First a Happy Birthday to Ann from Creative Antics whose birthday was yesterday along with Brooke's daughter Abbie!!! Happy Birthday guys!!! And a BIG Happy Birthday Tomorrow TO BROOKE!!!! YAY!!! Wishing you all the chocolates, a little bit of luck and Audrey gowns!! All the wishes are inspired by today's movie: My Fair Lady!

Welcome Everyone to our 26th Challenge, where the movie of choice this week is the beautiful 1964, 8 time Oscar winner: My Fair Lady - with the every elegant and gorgeous Audrey Hepburn! Among others, this movie won for best picture and for best costume design (there can be no doubt about that as there are just spectacular designs and creations in this movie!) We adore Audrey - her style and her grace and couldn't believe that its been 25 challenges since our last Audrey movie!

My Fair Lady is a musical that is based upon the famous 1913 book Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw. According to Wikipedia: "...the story concerns Eliza Doolittle, a flower girl who takes speech lessons from professor Henry Higgins so that she can pass as a lady. Higgins takes credit for Eliza's success, but she realizes that she can now be independent and does not need him."It was made into a smash hit muscial in 1956 and then turned into a movie in 1964 - and has been called the perfect film muscial.

We would also like to welcome our special Guest Designer this week: Jaimee Voight of A Creative Soul who has been capturing our attention since she started playing along (she was the Audrey recipient for Crouching Tiger and for Bride and Prejudice). Jaimee has a lovely style and all creations are just beautiful and lovely! YAY! Thank you for joining us today Jaimee!!!

The requirement for this week: is to get your embossing on!! Go ahead and emboss something (show whose the boss (like Eliza) and emboss! You choose whatever type of embossing you would like: faux embossing, dry embossing, faux dry embossing, etc. Whatever you would like!

Brooke's Card inspired by My Fair Lady:

This weeks card was inspired by the outfits as the Ascot as a starting point. I also have lots of hidden meaning through the card. All the formal blacks, grays and whites are so elegant. I added just a little flair of color to remember Eliza's presence at the ascot..

Just a little trivia:

The single most important costume ever created for a motion picture, Audrey Hepburn's Ascot Ascot (ăs`kət), town, Windsor and Maidenhead, S central England. The famous horse races instituted by Queen Anne in 1711 are held annually in June on Ascot Heath. Ascot remains an important social and fashion event, attended by the royal family. dress from "My Fair Lady," designed by Academy Award(R)-winner Cecil Beaton with an estimated value of US$100,000-$150,000;

I had a butterfly in my head from the start. Just imagine a homely little caterpillar that emerges into a beautiful butterfly. The songs are just so catchy you can't help but sing them aloud. How about:
With a little bit...with a little bit...
With a little bit of bloomin luck!
There is the
floral inspiration for my card.

You're not the "EMBOSS" of me... Eliza is reminding you to all to add
"A LITTLE BIT"
of embossing on your projects this week for our challenge.

Wouldn't it be Loverly...
(sentiment inspiration)

It's rather dull in town, I think I'll take me to Paree.
Mmmmmm.
The mistress wants to open up
The castle in Capri.
Me doctor recommends a quiet summer by the sea!
Mmmm, Mmmm, wouldn't it be loverly?
Eliza All I want is a room somewhere,
Far away from the cold night air.
With one enormous chair,
Aow, wouldn't it be loverly?
Lots of choc'lates for me to eat,
Lots of coal makin' lots of 'eat.
Warm face, warm 'ands, warm feet,
Aow, wouldn't it be loverly?
Aow, so loverly sittin' abso-bloomin'-lutely still.
I would never budge 'till spring
Crept over me windowsill.
Someone's 'ead restin' on my knee,
Warm an' tender as 'e can be. 'ho takes good care of me,
Aow, wouldn't it be loverly?
Loverly, loverly, loverly, loverly
[REPEAT]

Don't forget the BLING!
Remember all the bling she wears at her final presentation/test. I used a Rhinestone brad to represent her bling.

Here is a great link for the Lyrics to "My Fair Lady"

I hope you enjoy the show.. I can't wait to see where you all get your inspiration..

Hugs,
Brooke

Sankari's Card inspired by My Fair Lady

I feel like I know this movie like the back of my hand because I have watched it and sang along, day dreamed to it every since I was 12. My father bought me the complete set of Sound of Music and My Fair Lady (back in the day where it was VHS :) and I remember that was the biggest treat for me! I watched this movie EVERY day during the summer of 8th grade... I adored Eliza Do-little, had a mini crush on Freddie and dreamed about dancing with the prince (I had a HUGE crush on the prince...). I used to be able to recite the lines to the whole movie word for word... and loved singing in my completely off tune voice to the songs from the movie... :) I love every song: The Rain in Spain, WIth a little bit of luck, I'm getting married in the morning, Ordinary Man, and countlesssssssss other classics!

But my most favorite and my most favorit-est scene ever is the song " I could have danced all night" and the scene is the Embassy Ball. When Eliza emerges wearing this incredible gown (I am always in awe - even now - of that moment!) I just love the jewlery of stones glittering around her neck, the crown in her hair and the sparkles in that ethereal gown of hers that seemed to flow as she glided in the ball! And when she danced with the prince... well that was just the crowning moment for me... (talk about every little girl's dream) and I was hooked and in love forever :)
So my card is inspired by this scene in the movie and I used the embossing requirement in the embossed paper, and in the embossed sparkles of her dress. Her dress is white

You can check out more details on my blog (will post it later this afternoon :)
Hugs and chocolates to everyone

Jaimee's Card inspired by My Fair Lady:

I was tickled pink when Sankari and Brooke asked me to be a guest designer and even more excited when i knew the film was "My Fair Lady". I just adore this film, its sweetness, its sardonic humour and of course the fashion! There's a lot to love about this film i especially finding myself laughing myself silly at Higgens and Pickering, the song "Ordinary Man" especially has me laughing, could that man be any more conceited! The gorgeous Eliza so rough but such a lovely heart has so much to teach us about beauty on the inside being more important than the trappings of high society; and of course those 'catchy' loveable songs i have been singing around the house all week!

I drew inspiration from a few places in the film. The monochromatic use of pink is inspired by the beautiful floaty pink dress Eliza wears in the final scenes; so soft and feminine. I selectively stamped this Madonna and child stamp, excluding the child to get this profile of a young brunette. I think this image nicely represents both the girl Eliza, with her hair down and a flower in her hair, and the refined lady Higgens turns her into when her hair is all coiffed perfectly. The swirls have been embossed with versamark and clear ink, and layers of both organza and grossgrain ribbon enhance the feminine feel.

In the gift box the large cluster of silk roses is inspired by the opening scenes of the film where we see all the stunning bundles of flowers. I plan to fill the box with my Mum's favourite chocolates and give the set to her for mothers day, so just like Eliza she will have "lots of chocolates for her to eat"!
