We can't believe that we are already at our 100th challenge!!!!! WOW!!!!! How time flies!!!! We were so excited when we first started this challenge over two years ago and have had so much fun meeting new blog friends, seeing your amazing cinema creations and reading about where you get your creative inspiration from the different movies we pick each month!!!!


Picking our 100th movie challenge has been hard! There are too many favorites that would be worthy of a 100th celebration - and so we thought we would ask YOUR help to decide what we should all do for our 100th movie challenge.

4. Always - in honor of Audrey Hepburn (she is our heroine - so classy and elegant!)- and it was to honor her that we created the Audrey Award. This was Audrey's last movie.

Friday Announcement and Winner!

WOWOW!!! What an amazing week of players! Thank you all so much for playing along with us this week - we are completely floored by everyone's participation and were so happy to see new and familiar faces!!! We always love seeing how you incorporate the movie into your cards - and this week, Aubri created such a wonderful card for this challenge with her pop- out ice sculpture - in honor of the way Edward creates art and sees the hidden beauty in everything around him. We would love it if you would be our guest designer and display the Audrey Award on your blog!!

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #99 - Edward Scissorhands

Welcome Everyone to our 99th challenge (WOW!) where this week we are featuring the Oscar nominated Tim Burton  movie: Edward Scissorhands starring someone we love: Johnny Depp! If you haven't seen it - this movie is amazing - as usual, Tim Burton takes you into another world with his amazing imagination and introduces a character who is so sweet and loving, even though he has scissors for hands.  The story of Edward will definitely touch your heart! More than anything, Tim Burtons' use of colors and images is amazing in this movie, its not just dark, but it has bursts of color when Edward goes into suburbia and for all the different emotions, there are parallels in the movie with the different colors. The Challenge Requirement this week is to hand cut something or use a die cut in your creation *** that is inspired by the movie (in honor of his scissorhands :)

It really is amazing! We hope you will watch it and play along!

Sankari's Card Inspired by the movie: Edward Scissorhands

As many of you know, I have a slight thing for Johnny Depp (just a slight thing!! LOLOLOL!!!) - the man is just an incredible actor, as well, as just being plain old incredible! Do you know that he lost 25 lbs for this movie! And that this movie was Vincent Price's last screen appearance? (you can find all these trivia bits here). I LOVE the use of color in this movie - seriously - it is amazing how Burton uses color to create emotion or to express an emotion. When Edward is in the Inventor's castle, it is more dark and when he emerges into suburbia with all the different colored houses etc., there are these bursts of color as he lives in the warmth of love and appreciation. For my card today, I wanted to create something that had elements of being:

- a black and white feel when he is with the Inventor

- and the colorful aspect of when he lives with Peg

- something that has a buckle of sorts to represent his amazing outfit!

All of these elements came together with this semi quote from Johnny Depp as he was interviewed by Arsenio Hall, where he said that the feeling of Edward Scissorhands for him was of  "Not being able to fit in, the feeling of wanting to touch something, but not being able too, its the feeling of your early teens..." I thought I wanted to create a card for a teen who is going through those teenish turmoils and would need some reassurance that they actually don't have to try to fit into anything other then being themselves. This is why I adore the character of Peg and Edward, she is such a mother figure and tries to take care of him and tries to make him feel loved. This inspired the lovely sentiment: "I love you just the way you are" - Isn't this sentiment just so sweet and so nourishing! I loved making this card for the challenge:

I had so much fun experimenting with black and white and mixing it up with color and and texture. I hope you will play along and can't wait to see your creative take!

We haven't forgotten about our Audrey Winners - or special prizes - you guys create such amazing works of art - that it really is painful to choose one over another! From last week's challenge, we loved all of your felted creations and the quotes you chose just were absolutely perfect and inspiring!!! One card that we loved was Banu's sweet card about courage - the sentiment spoke to us about how the boys came to rally around their Captain - so we hope Banu that you will join us as our Guest Designer as our Audrey Winner this week! For all of you who participated in our World Card Making Day challenge - WOW!!! First off you guys came up with amazing movie choices (and we can't wait to do them!!! hopefully, you will play along again when we pick your movie choice!) - and again - its so hard to pick - but our special prize goes to Karli - who totally had us laughing with her pick of a Nightmare on Elm Sreet - we loved her take on the movie, that she picked her favorite genre - "horror" and the way she created the card!So Karli - please send me (Sankari) an email so I can send you some special little somethings for your crafting pleasure :)

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #98 - Dead Poet's Society

Welcome to our 98th challenge, where this week we are featuring the 1990 Oscar winning movie: Dead Poet's Society. This movie is set at a conservative Prep School, where the lives of the senior boys are changed during the course learning from their English teacher who inspires them to see the world with a new perspective, to think outside of the box and to become inspired by words, ideas and the essence of the human spirit. This is an inspiring story, heartwarming and we thought for the challenge requirement this week that it would be fun to use "felt" in your creations - as it reminded us of the prep school fall uniforms and also that all poetry should be felt with the heart :)


Some ideas for cards or creations could be: something created for an inspirational teacher, using some words of poetry from the works of Whitman, Lord Byron, Thoreau and other poets mentioned in the movie, to create a card for someone who inspires you, a card about friendships, about following your dreams, etc. Anything from the movie that speaks to you or inspires you!


Sankari's card inspired by the movie: Dead Poet's Society

I loved watching this movie in college and being inspired by the way Professor Keating taught his students and inspired them to "Seize the Day". The phrase "Carpe Diem" was something that he taught them on the very first day - that for every moment of this precious life, we should seize the moment and make our dreams a reality! So for my card, I wanted to create a card with the sentiment Carpe Diem as the main focal point

. I love these papers from Crate Paper - and had so much fun cutting out the little different colored report cards. I stamped the same sentiment Carpe Diem a few times on some of the grade cards in a softer ink (Desert Sand) and then arranged them in a fan shape. I wanted to colors to be more masculine since the movie was about a boy's prep school.

I cut some brown felt out for a scalloped border and then finished it with some liquid pearls. I thought this would be a fun card to give to a student who is heading off to college.

I had a lot of fun playing along this week!! Hope you have a chance to play along as well!

Brooke's card inspired by the movie: Dead Poet's Society

What a great movie full of legendary quotes... "Captain my Captain" and [quoting Henry David Thoreau] "I went to the woods because I wanted to live deliberately. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life." and so on.. You can check out sooo many great quotes here that you can use for your inspiration.. My card is full of inspiration from this movie.. I started with the color scheme and used a more masculine one sense the school is a all boys school. I used a script background to represent the words of poetry from Mr. Keatings(Robyn Williams) class.

The sentiment reflects all the changes and new knowledge that all the boys are experiencing. The stripped D.S.P. even made me think of a mans shirt. Then the finishing piece of inspiration on my card is the felted wool butter fly.. The butter fly represents the main character Neil(Robert Sean Leonard). Neil has alway done what his father and everyone else wants him to do. He finally finds the courage to see who he really is and take great joy in doing so... You could say it is a transformation of sorts but not with our a price. Neil is a caterpillar that turns into a butterfly.. I also chose this piece of felted wool because it reminded me of a blazer that the boys might wear for their uniforms. Don't forget the corduroy button that you might find on a professor/teachers jacket. Sooo many great things you can find in this movie for inspiration.. I could make another card just about the play that Neil preforms in...

In the words of Neil: "For the first time in my whole life, I know what I wanna do! And for the first time, I'm gonna do it! Whether my father wants me to or not! Carpe diem! "

Guest Designer: Nancy Knowles's card inspired by the movie: Dead Poet's Society

I admit, it has been awhile since I have seen this movie, but the feelings it leaves are still with me.

What a touching and captivating movie, that shows what a difference a teacher can make. This film portrays Robin Williams, as Professor John Keating, a teacher at a private boys school, who gives his poetry class students the inspiration to go against the flow, to be themselves, to "sieze the day". It makes me think of all of the wonderful teachers I've ever had, especially my American Literature teacher in high school, who really took the effort to make sure his students could think outside of the box and encouraged them to stand up for their ideas. I wanted to create a card for someone who inspires, like Professor Keating did for his students, and I wanted to use the color red for the red school sweaters the boys wore in the film (and another excuse to use Cherry Cobbler!).

Sneak Peek Friday

Happy Fall Ya'll! We all of you in the northern Hemisphere. Here in the States we are definitely changing temperatures.. We were in the high 89 Fahrenheit regions last week here in Utah and this week rain and 60-70 brrrr. it's time to pull out all the warm cloths and settle in with a good movie!

To start out the week of movies we bought the new released "Beauty and the Beast" in the combo pack.. What a fun watch with never seen musical numbers.. We just came out of the 1900 literally and bought a HUGE new T.V. and finally a Blue Ray player.. You can't even imagine how amazing things look.. Everything including our regular t.v. watching looks 3-d because almost everything was already being broadcasted in HD.. That will take a little getting use to for me anyway.. My boys are LOVING all the football they fell like they are there in person.. Can't wait to watch this week movie on the big screen.

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge: WORLD CARD MAKING DAY 2010

HAPPY WORLD CARD MAKING DAY!!!

Today we thought we would take a break from the Cinema Saturday Challenges - and throw out a free-for all challenge to celebrate World Card Making Day! 

What is the challenge? 

1. Pick YOUR favorite movie or any movie that we have already done

2. Create a card from that movie from something about that movie that inspires you

3. Tell us what movie you picked and what inspired you from it! 

4. We have a sweet little prize for one lucky participant - so come on and play along!!!
