Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #1

Welcome Everyone to the premiere of Cinema Saturday's 1st Creative Challenge!!
This week we kick off our new challenge blog site, with Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice -- since we both connected with our love for her novels and the movies made based on her novels. We picked one of our favorite movies: Pride & Prejudice. This novel was turned into the wildly popular TV mini series in the UK in 1995 and stars Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy and Jennifer Ehlie as Elizabeth Bennett. In 2005, this movie was adapted for the big screen with Matthew McFadden as Mr. Darcy and Keira Knightly as Elizabeth Bennett. The cards that we created for this challenge were inspired by different aspects from the movies such as the furniture, the costumes, the words of Austen herself. Here are the cinema inspired cards that we created:

Brooke's Card: Mr. & Mrs. card

What a great movie to watch don't you all agree... This is a timeless novel and movie... Don't we all own this in VHS and DVD even Blue Ray... I think I have all the versions even the Bollywood of course..... The best thing about this movie is that my Sweetie and I both love it... When it's been a while sense we have watched it he will say "we need to watch our show" and we both know without a word being spoken what is meant... I love period pieces and really can't get
enough... I basically crave them.. So I watch them over and over again... This makes it hard to read the book for me because Jane Austen movies are so true to character pretty much word for word...  If it's been a while sense you have watch I  hope you have a great time watching "Pride and Prejudice" again....

When I was making this card I was thinking of all the beautiful fabrics from this century.. I really love toile fabric, so I was inspired to make my own toile pattern. I know that toile is French, but it still makes me think of the period... I found my self looking closer than ever at all fabric details. The color and patterns in all the dresses, pillows, drapery and even all the upholstery really come alive. Notice the couch that Mr. Darcy (the real one, Collin Firth) is sitting on at Pemberly when he has a grin from ear to ear while watching Elizabeth support and detour comments from Ms Bingley.(The color and pattern are gorgeous) This is truly a turning point for Mr Darcy in the movie regarding the public expression of his feeling toward Ms. Elizabeth Bennett....

When watching this movie view it in a new light.. Notice all the beauty of the fabric... If you can repeat this movie word for word as I it's a fun new approach enjoy the journey as you create...

Brooke
All the details of the card are on Brooke's blog with the inspiration as well.

Sankari's Card:  I Love You Ardently card

Seriously, I could watch this movie all the time.... especially the UK version with Colin Firth! One of my most favorite moments is watching the 6 hour UK version with one of my good friends at her family's house in the woods. It was winter in Iowa - everything was frozen under a blanket of white.... and so my friend and I watched P & P while knitting in front of her wooden stove in our pajamas.... oh I loved every minute of it!

I love Austen's language and her word choices are beautiful and lovely. So I drew inspiration from her words for my card. I love the way that Darcy's first proposal (click here) and his second proposal (click here) has the use of the words "ardent" and "body & soul" - so from that I created a card for my dearest husband - that say's "I love you ardently..." and then on the inside it is continued with: "body & soul". I love making cards and I also love making a special card for him every once in a while to let him know how much he is appreciated for all the little things and the big things that he does :)  The other thing that I love in watching Pride and Prejudice is watching Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy (its true .... he will always be the Mr. Darcyto me :) The bow in my card is a tribute to his collar tie... I love the costumes used in these movies - absolutely lovely.... sigh....

I have to agree that the words " You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you...." I love love love love that line that line as well.. I love that you got you inspiration form the language.. I so wish that I could speak in a proper british accent.. I only have a few words that I can say properly... I am hearing Regan in the other room watching the youtube clip of Mr Darcy grinning from ear to ear and her watches Elizabeth Bennett play and sing the piano at pemberly... He is such a a sucker for a good romance movie...(he,he) Regan is also so very impressed with you handiwork.. But you got to hear his first hand about all your "Beadwork" he, he you fooled him with paint... You are a true master of faux painting. When you are on your MAC type in the definition of "Faux" it will crack you up... Great job on tying both our words together for our kick off.. Your the best!!! xoxoxoxox
Have a wonderful day with the family...

Ladies, what a fun concept. It was harder than I thought it would be, but I figured any attempt is better than none.

Oh I love this!! Pride & Prejudice is my favourite book...and I have watched the BBC film version so many times! I agree too that Colin Firth is SO the real Mr. Darcy! The big screen version a couple of years ago was good, but it's just so hard to really develop the characters in the span of only 2 hours. I also LOVE the language so much!

What a great idea to take inspiration from films. I can hardly wait for which ones you pick next - if this week's is any indication it'll be something I love!

Anyway, it's a bit late, but here's my creation inspired by P&P...

I couldn't resist making 2 more of these - one with a nod to Mr. Darcy and one to his sister - dear Georgiana!

What a fun theme this week! I can hardly wait to see what you choose next week!

Per Brooke's request, I have to say my favorite book turned into a movie is To Kill a Mockingbird. It's my all-time favorite book (and lucky me, I get to teach it every year!), and the movie is wonderful. I can't imagine anyone besides Gregory Peck ever playing the role of Atticus Finch. :)
