Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #49 - The Two Towers (Lord of the Rings)

Good Morning Everyone - welcome to our 49th Challenge!!! HOW amazing is that! Well, we are starting the party early with some blog candy (more about that later) and are excited to feautre the second movie in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy: The Two Towers!
Do you know that among its 65 WINS, this movie also has two Oscars. This movie brings out the vision of JR.Tolkien's masterpiece book- the Lord of the Rings onto the silver screen (you can check out Tolkien's main page to learn more about him). This second part of the trilogy focuses on the separate journeys of the disbanded Fellowship of the first movie. It is full of beauty and magic (the Ents), of the rousing of the spirit of a people (Rohan), of the coming together and destroying the darkness (Battle at Helm's Deep) and the depth of friendship, trust, loyalty and courage (every single main and side story :). It is an amazing journey to be transported to this other world.

This week's challenge requirement is embossing.
There are SO many different types of embossing that you can do - so don't worry if you don't have any powders or a heat gun. You can always do faux embossing, scoring/embossing, use an embossing plate if you have a Big Shot or Cuttlebug, or of course you can do embossing with powders among others.

This week, we are so pleased to have 2 guest designers join us! Carol Dunstan of Inkantations and Incarnations and our Audrey recipient from last week Jen Cuthbertson of I'm Crafty. Thank you so much ladies for playing along with us!

Sankari's Card inspired by the movie: The Two Towers:

I love the Lord of the Rings trilogy - both the book and the movies. The details, the magic, the transportation into a different land and era is simply magical. And of course, Viggo as Aragorn is SO yummy :) For my card this week, I was inspired by the speech of Sam towards the end of the movie - where he gives Frodo hope in a time of darkness. He says: "Even the Darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines, it will shine out the clearer." I love this quote that Sam says - it sort of puts together all the elements of this movie and sets it up for the last movie: The Return of the King. So I printed out this quote in a Hobbit font and cut it out with my spellbinders. I kept the colors muted as the cloaks of the hobbits were and the little heart button is a symbol of Sam's pure hearted devotion to Frodo - so sweet and inspiring!

Please check out my blog for more details, more pictures and a video :) And I hope you will join us and play along this week!
Hugs,
Sankari :)

Brooke's Card inspired by the movie: "Two Towers"

When I say the dress that Eowyn was wearing I knew I was using blue... As I was watching the movie I had a moment of inspiration when Merry and Pippin were with the Ents (Trees).. So I started a tree that I think ended up looking like it belongs more in Rivendale... This movie as do all the L.O.T.R's movies has such a huge FRIENDSHIP overtone. I wanted to show how loyal all the different characters in this movie are. Sam edifies the ultimate friend.

This card is for all my amazing friends that I have meet through Cinema Saturday challenges...

Love you all.

Come see my inspiration and a little more... Here

Guest Designer: Carol Dunstan's bookmark inspired by the movie: The Two Towers:

In our minds - Lord of the Rings = Carol Dunstan. She totally breathes LOTR and knows every single detail of every single detail of the movie and book. We were so pleased that she joins us today as our guest designer:

I'm sure you can imagine that I was ecstatic to be asked to guest design for Cinema Saturday's Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers challenge. Those of you who have seen the Extended Edition dvd sets will have noticed that each one has a different style - FOTR is Elvish, TT is Rohirric (if that isn't a word it is now!) and ROTK... well maybe I will save that for when the girls nominate that as the weeks challenge! Anyway, it seemed that the thing to do would be to make something for The Two Towers that had a Rohan theme. One thing that really stood out for me was all the banners that are displayed in Meduseld, so I selected one and based my piece on that. I also have a bookmark of one of these banners, so I decided to make one of my own.

Thank you so much Carol for being our guest designer for this movie - love this beautiful bookmark that you have created! You must visit Carol's blog Inkantations and Inkarnations for more yummy inspiration and details!

Guest Designer: Jen Cuthbertson's card inspired by the movie: The Two Towers:
I am so honored to be a guest designer this week! When Sankari asked me, of course I said yes, but there was true panic as I wondered whether I could honor this movie, this challenge, and you all with my creation this week.

When I think of LOTR: The Two Towers, there are a few things that come immediately to mind - the big battle scene, Aragorn's attraction to Eowyn, in spite of his love for Arwen, and the dichotomy of Frodo and Sam's mistrust of Gollum but their understanding of the need to follow him. All of that on one card...including embossing...what to do? I know! Black and white to show the character struggles and something metal for the battle.

I knew immediately that for the black/white, I wanted to try a new trick my friend Maya showed me - to emboss white powder on black cardstock and black powder on white cardstock. I chose an image that spoke Elven to me (I really don't have very many options here, lol), cut the strips of paper, taped them together then stamped the image in Versamark ink and heat embossed them. My husband thought they looked like a gate and I made my first attempt at a tri-panel card. I'd never made a card with this layout before and wasn't sure how it would turn out, but I really like it!

Depicting the Battle of Helm's Deep was tough! I tried to represent the metal of the armor and weaponry by using embossed aluminum foil! I simply took a sheet of foil from the roll in the kitchen and ran it through my Swiss Dots Cuttlebug embossing folder. Voila!

My final zhuzhes were adding the ribbon tie to close the card, a vellum interior liner, and ruby rhinestones. Fun!

Thank you all for your continued inspiration and for the honor of being a guest this week! I can't wait to see what you come up with!!

Thank you so much Jen for playing along with us and your creation is simply EPIC! Please visit Jen's Blog: I'm Crafty for more details!

In the blurb about my piece I probably should have mentioned the little surprise on my blog post - though it will probably only mean something if you are a fan of the movies (and going by Sankari's comment I think she is...).

The other cards look great, will check them out properly when I grab my cuppa in a sec, congrats Jackie!

I know guest designers usually only do the one project for a movie, but you know me and LOTR... so I feel like appologising for not getting anything more made, I have two more definate ideas of what I want to create but alas life has conspired against me! Our dishwasher caught fire the other night (we were home and I heard it so it was dealt with pretty quickly and noone was injured) and my craft desk is covered in soot. The cleaners will be here first thing tomorrow morning but who knows how long it will take them to do it all... and how long till everything is back to normal :( At least now I have a chair wiped down so I can sit at the computer!
