Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge - #19 - Emma~ By Jane Austin

HAPPY VALENTINE"S DAY!!!

We wish that everyone has a wonderful Valentine's Day today and that today and everyday is filled with love, hugs and joy! Since our Cinema Saturday falls on Valentine's Day, we had to pick a valentine'y movie. We loved Jane Austen's Emma (written in 1815) because of Emma's cupid like tendencies and the sweet romance in this period movie. According to Wikipedia, "prior to starting the novel, Austen wrote, "I am going to take a heroine [Emma] whom no-one but myself will much like." Emma's character matures through the story as she does her match making and as she falls in love. Her adorability has inspired Jane Austen's Emma to be adapted several time in the popular culture: 1972 BBC version of Emma, 1995 Clueless (was inspired by Emma), 1996 Emma (Gwyneth Paltrow), 1996 Emma (Kate Beckinsale),

You can watch the whole Emma movie (the Gwyneth version) on youtube here. This link will take you to the link: Emma part one - and from there there are links to take you to the whole movie. There are 11 parts in total. We both love this movie and hope that you enjoy it too! Here are our cards inspired by Emma:

THE REQUIREMENT THIS WEEK:
We thought that for this week - it would be interesting to use some dots in our cards. So we are aksing that in your cards you use some dots: either in the designer paper, brads, stickles, paper piercing, embellsishments ---
anything at all.
Dot it up :)

Brooke's Emma Inspired Card:

When we were in England, we went into this great antique shop along the river Dart.. There these beauties were just sitting on a glass shelf... I wanted to jump up and down.. I tried not to shout to my DH to come here as fast as he could... He knew when he got over to me what I was so excited about... He even said ... "It's the dark blue" He knew I was going to have these little treasured...xoxo. I even thought about buying one of them for my mom but I just could not bare to part with them... They were a steal by the way. Way cheaper than even brand new.

My inspiration was the cameo work in the white and contrasted by the blue... there is a card so similar to this in one of the late Stampin' Up catalog.. This card is the reason I own this sentiment set.. I just could not get it out of my mind until it was mine. Ironically, it took me months before I ever made this card.. I actually made this card a while back and have saved it for this movie.

One of my favorite parts in Emma is when Emma and Frank Churchill are singing around the piano.. I love the song and voices in the movie... Even if Frank totally take over and commands center stage.. One of those Ohhhhh! heart stop beating moments is when Emma and Mr. Knightly are out on the balcony talking about Mr and Mrs Elton and what rat finks they are for snubbing Harriot Smith. They both have that "ah ha" moment and then share a long over due dance together... I LOVE this movie I watch it over and over again... Gwyneth Paltrow is adorable in this movie.

If you haven't watched "Becoming Jane" yet you have to... It's so fun to see all the aspects of here life come out and see what part of her life inspired her writings.. In the case of Emma the Mr Elton character was inspired by "Jon Warren". Both selfish men but Mr Warren sabotage the happiness of Jane by writing a letter to her loves Uncle and Guardian. Making her intentions much different that they were.  Mister Elton is just totally into himself and assumes all around him admire and adore him...  They both declare there love to Emma and Jane and BOTH are rebuked.... Jane Austen has such a great dramatic and comedic was of writing..

Sankari's Emma Inspired: "I believe in Fairytales" Card

I love Jane Austen - love all her writings and I love the movies inspired by her writings. This movie Emma is one that I loved because of Austen's writing and how she she weaves comedy in her writing. I love how Emma grows and realizes what love really is and how we are allowed in on that journey. My favorite part of watching this movie (aside from story and the characters) was enjoying the costumes - I love all their dresses and the colors that they had picked out were beautiful for Emma - simply lovely. I love those Jane Austen inspired dresses and so I made my card inspired by the dress style and the colors of this card are from one of the dresses the Emma wears. The sentiment reads: "I believe in Fairytales" because Emma is constantly trying to create fairytale romances to all her friends and acquaintances .

You can find more details on my blog (later today). I hope that all of you are enjoying your Valentine's day and that everyday is filled with fairytale magic (sometimes I feel like all I get is the cleaning/mopping of Cinderella's life before she becomes the princess... :) LOL! but that's still part of a fairytale right :) Wishing you all Valentine's day cheer! Happy Love Day :)
Hugs to all,
Sankari

Brooke - I just love this card and the sentiment for this movie - it is just perfect with the last scene of the movie with Emma and Knightly you can see it HERE (SPOILER WARNING for those who haven't seen it yet :)

and usually I am not so into the songs that people put on youtube when they do a montage but I really enjoyed this one of Knightly and Emma -- it was just beautiful :)

Happy Valentine's day Everyone :)

Oh I love this movie! Haven't watched it in a while - definitely hope to rent it for inspiration this week - hopefully it hasn't been checked out of my video store for 8 yrs like the last one...! I'm actually watching Princess Bride now, FINALLY - have a fun idea for a card, may have to still make it even though I'm weeks late! Love your creations this week, you ladies are so incredibly talented! And using dots?? I have a hard time making a card WITHOUT polka dots so I love this week's rule! You should see my card today, it's a little overboard on the dots, LOL! Happy Valentine's Day!!!

wow, doesn't Kate Beckingsale look young in her version (which I haven't seen... wonder if it is worth hunting for). Have seen Gwenyth Paltrow's one and will enjoy watching it again - I'd completely forgotten Toni Collette and Ewan McGregor were in it!

I haven't seen this movie...I haven't even heard of it...so I kind of went with what I saw on the movie cover. It looks like it was a really cute movie, I will have to sit and watch it when I have more time. Here is my card: http://mandyspaperplayground.blogspot.com/2009/02/late-valentine.html

Nelli,

Thanks for jogging my memory about "Clueless".
I totally new that Clueless was a modern version of Emma. I just forget about it when I am watching Emma. I totally get lost in the daydream of all Austen book and movies I feel like I become a part of them.

Hugs
Brooke

My husband had to work today so I had a chance to watch this movie and make a card! I had never watched this movie before today. I see where Clueless is kind of based on this movie. I loved the scenes that you liked too Brooke. I had bought a Thomas Kincaid stamp last year and had never used it. I loved the garden scenes and the beautiful flowers. This stamp reminded me of the very last wedding scene. Anyway, loved your cards Sankari and Brooke and here is mine:

Well I am back from LA/ San Diego and you picked the PERFECT movie -- I read 5 of Janes books on the trip (Emma being one of them) amd watched the movie on Netflix internet yesterday --- I have started a card. It will be simple this week as I am still trying to move back to the Central Time zone!

Missed you all as had no net access the last two weeks!

here's my card. Oops, I didn't mean to make it so much like yours Sankari... I haven't been back since I last posted and had forgotten what you ladies had done! I think it's pretty obvious I was inspired by the picnic dress, though had nothing like the white pattern so went with straight out dots!

Yay!! There are a lot of entires this week....I can't wait to go home tonight and look at them all!

Here is my scrapbook page. Enjoy!

Here is my card --- and I see in my previous post I forgot to say how wonderful the creations of you two are -- I thought they were amazing!
Mine is pretty simple - I thought the colors and the ribbon fit the period and I had to add some writing (all that handing around of the letter!)

I just realized that I was supposed to use "dots" on my design! I guess the tiny dot gem stickers count? LOL! I can't get my link to work either. Oh well!
